Learning Support Assistant (ALN)
Our client is urgently looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant for a Fixed Term contract from 21st August 2023 – 30th May 2025.
A Learning Support Assistant supports students within the classroom and wider College life. This role
assists the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator and Teachers to create effective learning environments
where students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) can make the most of their education experience.
Through this role you will be working as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant for a student with profound
hearing loss. You will be required to support the student in the classroom environment as they access
the IB Curriculum and you will need to scribe for the student.
Classes operate from 08:00 until 13:10 Monday to Friday. In the afternoons, you will be required to
support the student you are allocated to as well as host tutorials for other students with ALN. The 1:1
tutorials will focus on study skills, scaffolding IB assignments and general learning support.
As a Learning Support Assistant you will play a crucial role within The Learning Centre
(TLC) and you will be supported by the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator.
Key Accountabilities
● Work 1-1 with students with additional needs such as those with a hearing impairment and/or
additional social communication needs.
● Support students requiring 1:1 with extra curricular activities.
● Note take for students you are supporting within the classroom environment (typed).
● Provide 1:1 support sessions for students with ALN in the TLC Department
● Motivate students to achieve their potential and beyond.
● Support and encourage students to complete assignments in a timely and organised manner.
● Work with the TLC team to coordinate and implement support for students with Additional
Learning Needs (ALN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
● Work with Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to ensure the student’s needs are supported
effectively throughout their time at the college.
● Attend fortnightly Learning Support Meetings and provide feedback on the ALN Provision and
work that has taken place with individual students.
● Assist class teachers with the implementation of IDP strategies and recommendations of support.
● Liaise with a student’s pastoral team (Tutor, House Mentor, Head of Year) where applicable.
● Promote Post 16 study skills, supporting students with academic writing and revision strategies.
● Liaise with external agencies where required to enhance the support provision for ALN students.
● Support the access arrangement application process for the ALN Department.
● Work as part of a team to promote inclusion throughout the College.
Level 2 Teaching Assistant Qualification or Equivalent essential
Experience of working alongside students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) essential
Qualification in one area of additional learning needs (e.g. dyslexia) desirable
Registration with the Education Workforce Council desirable
Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate desirable
Excellent communication skills and able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with a variety of audiences essential
Google Suite proficient with good IT skills and the ability to manage and manipulate data desirable
Commitment to the safeguarding of children and young adults essential
Flexibility to work outside the normal working week essential
Own transport essential due to location

Salary: Grade 3 £19842 -£20642 per annum, term time only
