Technician in Carpentry & Joinery

We are currently looking for a Technician in Carpentry and Joinery based in Newtown.

This is a temporary position for 37 hours per week over 5 days.
The rate of pay for this role is £11.33 per hour

 

The role is to provide technical support across the curriculum area of the school of Construction (in Carpentry & Joinery)

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • To be responsible for maintaining an appropriate practical working environment for teaching and learning by providing classroom and workshop preparation and support;
  • To maintain an appropriate practical environment in relation to commercial activities or other College projects/initiatives via preparation, production, transport and support;
  • To prepare and process material requisitions;
  • To produce and maintain accurate and current inventories of equipment, plant, and consumables and implement an efficient system of stock control;
  • To prepare materials and equipment for learner/classroom/workshop as required;
  • To provide an installation, maintenance and repair service of equipment;
  • To liaise with relevant agencies in order to maximise the efficient use of equipment and ordering of materials;
  • To maintain a clean, safe and well organised environment;
  • To supervise the safe and effective use of technical facilities by students, encouraging good practice from learners in terms of Health and Safety, attitude to work and standards, attendance, punctuality and socially acceptable behaviour;
  • To provide support for classes as required;
  • To attend and contribute to meetings as required e.g. School, Course Team, Quality Review;
  • To carry out health, safety and security functions, including record keeping, reporting or dealing with unsafe situations, risk assessments;
  • To organise the issue and return of equipment to users;
  • To liaise with internal and external providers in order to ensure the smooth running of technical support;
  • To complete administrative procedures and maintain records as required;

 

Candidates should hold a level 2 qualification in a relevant discipline, level 2 qualifications in both English and Maths (GSCE or equivalent) and be IT literate to level 2.  Candidates should also have relevant experience.  Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements is essential.
